Sense, reflection and upcycling with Konstfack students at Stockholm Furniture Fair, welcome to hall C!

Cows and Trees, Sense and Reflection

Each summer, new annual growth rings are created in the trunk of the pine tree. Each time a cow bends its head to graze, folds of skin are formed that tell a history. Cows and trees – leather and pine are some of our oldest materials, and the most reliable. A tradition-bearing foundation in Swedish industry, often with the raw materials coming from a limited local radius. Near the human body, in one’s clothes, furniture, rooms and landscapes.

In times of lowered prices, reduced domestic production, threats due to climate change and trends reaching the level of hysteria, we urged the third-year students at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design’s programme for Interior Architecture & Furniture Design to explore the senses and take time for reflection. To take sustainability, local production and appreciation of the unique traces of vegetable-tanned leather and the different stripes of the wood seriously; in furniture that is to grow old and age with us, our children and our grandchildren.

We have been inspired by the environments around Säters Sawmill and Tärnsjö Tannery and have designed and produced – at Konstfack – seating furniture that has long withstood the eye and the body’s wear in the interaction between Swedish wood and leather.

Particapating students: Adrian Bursell, Alexandra Friberg, Fredrik Sahlström, Hillevi Blücher, Nils Ahrenberg, Simon Öreby, Siri Svedborg and Sophia Moser.
