Aabenraa, the first Danish municipality to actively eliminate child sexual abuse material from its computers

At the beginning of 2011, the Danish municipality of Aabenraa will install the safety solution NetClean ProActive. This makes it the first municipality in Denmark to actively protect its computers and networks by installing an application that identifies and blocks police classified child sexual abuse images and videos.

NetClean and its working partner Secu are currently holding discussions with other Danish municipalities that wish to protect their networks against this type of material. About 10 per cent of Sweden’s municipalities use NetClean ProActive to protect their computer systems against child sexual abuse material. In doing so the municipality protects its inhabitants and its trademark at the same time as taking a concrete measure for the betterment of society.

NetClean gained its first Danish customer in 2008 when the insurance company Tryg installed NetClean ProActive.

- Every time someone looks at a child sexual abuse image or video, a new offence is being committed against the child in the image. There are statistics that show that a third of the people that look at this type of material will themselves commit child sexual abuse offences. By preventing people from gaining access to child sexual abuse material, we are protecting children worldwide, concludes Christian Sjöberg.
