NorrlandsOperan is looking for someone to lock up

For 24 hours between 24 and 25 March, NorrlandsOperan will keep a person locked in a room without access to water. Anyone with an internet connection can follow the experiment in real time and have an influence on the outcome. The search is now on for the person who wants to be locked up.

Are you healthy, brave and willing to accept a challenge?
Can you manage without a salary, food and water?

These are the questions posed in the job adverts placed by NorrlandsOperan in the search for a volunteer.

In brief, the experiment involves locking someone up for 24 hours and giving them no control over their access to water. Instead, the water will be governed by the involvement of others via twitter.

Using the hashtag #NOwater24, followers can tweet to either give water to the person locked up (GE #NOwater24) or take it from them (TA #NOwater24). The experiment is to be broadcast live on the internet from the start on 24 March at 12 noon until the end, 24 hours later. You can also follow the experience on instagram under the same hashtag: #NOwater24.

The experiment is connected to NorrlandsOperan's staging of The Marriage of Figaro which premières on Thursday 26 February. In NorrlandsOperan's futuristic version, the story is set in the year of 2068 where wealth and power is not measured in money, but in water. But the fact is that lack of water already is a major global problem.

"More than one billion people have no access to clean drinking water, but even though we are aware of this, many turn a blind eye. We just don't see the problem, or we don't see it as our problem. This creates a Catch-22 situation. Because it's only when we perceive problems as problems that we can do something about them", says Magnus Mikaelsson, NorrlandsOperan.
