Oaxen Krog awarded 3 stars in World’s Best Wine Lists Awards 2018

The Sommelier’s version of Michelin stars, the World’s Best Wine Lists awards, has this year awarded Oaxen Krog 3 stars in the prestigious “Jury Prizes” category. In achieving the awards’ highest rating, the wine list at Oaxen Krog was considered exceptional in breadth and depth in the selection, a good mix of vintages in terms of age, quality and style and displaying genuine passion and vision.

The Jurys motivation
Commenting on their decision, the jury made reference to Oaxen Krog’s wider food philosophy and said: “The same ethos of respecting and co-operating with nature is observed in the wine list, which exclusively features Old World European wines from both famous and, in the majority, small and lesser-known producers. Highlights include older vintages, such as the Blanc de Blancs Champagne L’Artiste 2004, Le Mesnil Grand Cru 1995, and Fritz Haag Riesling Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Auslese 1990. The judges of the World’s Best Wine Lists Awards 2017 summed up the excellent list well, describing it as ‘lovely, classic, and chosen with conviction’”.

Oaxen Krog
Magnus Ek and Agneta Green opened their original restaurant in 1994 on the island of Oaxen in the southern part of the Stockholm archipelago. They developed the restaurant and it soon became one of the most highly rated in Sweden. In 2011, they closed the restaurant ahead of reopening the new Oaxen Krog on Stockholm’s Djurgården in 2013. The following year the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star and in 2015 they were awarded a second star. Together with a seasonal tasting menu, Oaxen Krog serves wines only from small, carefully selected vineyards in Europe who share the same philosophy as the restaurant.

World’s Best Wine List
Regarded as the sommelier’s version of Michelin stars, the World’s Best Wine Lists awards is the most rigorous and prestigious wine list accolade in the industry. Organized by the multi-award-winning publication The World of Fine Wine, the World’s Best Wine Lists is judged by an independent panel of prestigious international wine experts. The winner in each category is recognized as the finest list of its kind globally.

Category Jury Prizes
At the nomination of individual senior judges, but subject to the approval of the jury as a whole, these prizes recognize wine lists that show distinctive character and flair, offer exceptionally good value, or were particularly strong in a specific wine style. In 2018 just over 100 Jury Prizes were awarded, making this added badge a truly exclusive appraisal from the judging panel.
