Press preview of commemorative exhibition

Tack för ordet – HC Ericson 1945-2012

For the first time in ten years the Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize goes to a graphic designer.

In 2002 the prize went to HC Ericson, then a professor at the School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg, who died in December 2012.

In recognition of this a selection of HC Ericson’s works will be displayed at the Röhsska Museum in parallel with the exhibition featuring this year’s prize-winner.

Back in 2002 HC Ericson became the first graphic designer to be awarded the Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize. His clear-cut, yet also playful and fanciful, style was used by a number of Swedish companies, including Lammhults, Kosta Boda, Gärsnäs and Vin & Sprit.

It was also HC Ericson who designed the Röhsska Museum’s graphic profile, with the dots over the ö character in the museum’s name being effectively emphasised.

This commemorative exhibition reflects on HC Ericson’s work as a designer, educationalist, artist and author, and features a selection of his works chosen by his son Eric Ericson and his siblings.

The exhibition Tack för ordet – HC Ericson 1945-2012 runs from 5 November 2013 until 5 January 2014.

The exhibition will be opened by Tom Hedqvist in the presence of Eric Ericson on Tuesday, 5 November at 17.30.

Evening lecture on Tuesday, 12 November from 18.00 to 19.00. HC Ericson as we remember him.

A public talk about HC Ericson as a person, designer, educationalist, entrepreneur and author. The talk will be chaired by the Röhsska Museum’s Director Tom Hedqvist.
