Ambassador Of The Month January 2014 – Marina Milojkovic

She came to us about 5 months ago and she is now as a part of the interior at Project Playground.Marina Milojkovic came to work for us, voluntarily, with an open heart and is now captured in the hearts of so many in Langa. Except for her hard work at the office she also runs Brain Game for us which focus on children with difficulties catching up in school. Marina has a strong belief of what she wants and one of her missions in life is soon to be at the end but she will for sure continue in this path in many other ways. She will be deeply missed when she leaves but something tells us that she will soon return again.

1. You are spending your 5th month working volunteering at Project Playground in Langa. What have you learnt the most?

Pretty hard to answer only because I’ve learnt so much, but something that I definitely will bring with me throughout my life is that it doesn’t take much to make a difference in another person’s life. If we all just did a little bit more for the people around us, imagine what the world would look like.

It doesn’t take much to give a child better childhood memories because children don’t need a lot to be happy. The small things really matters and when Project Playground created this amazing platform for children and youth, they changed so many lives to the better, only by creating a place where they can play, have fun, participate in different activities, laugh and to feel safe, noticed and loved.

2. Life at home will probably never be the same after this… do you have any thoughts about that?

I’ve been thinking about that a lot actually, how I have grown as a person by being here. I’ve learnt so much and I feel stronger and more confident in myself now and that will change my life for the better. It is just so many things back home that we have and should be so grateful for but that we take for granted. I know that I will appreciate the things and opportunities I have in my life even more now.

3. What memories has made the biggest impact on you?

I have so many amazing memories from my time here in Langa but the moments that stood out for me is the one’s I spent together with the youth within Great Corner (Project Playground´s gang prevention/intervention program), who truly are inspirational and wonderful people. Like the first time I was in contact with Great Corner, I sat down and talked to some of them about their thoughts about Great Corner and some of their experiences in life. I have wanted to work with youth for a long time and this inspired me even more.

That week when Lugna Gatan (Fryshuset) was here and held workshops for us made a huge impact on me as well. I learned so much and I am very grateful to have gotten to know all these great individuals who partcipated and to hear some of their life stories.
