Join us in reaching 1 000 000 children with life-saving vaccines!

After successful implementation of MyChild System in Mukono District, Shifo is raising funds to implement the system in the Central Region of Uganda. The Swedish Postcode Lottery, Safello, Julia Silvermane and Panea are new partners and supporting the campaign. We are looking for more supporters to increase impact and reach every child with life-saving health services. Find out how you can help by fundraising, donating and sharing your birthday!

Today, 24th October 2014, we are launching Every Child Counts Campaign in Central Region of Uganda to ensure that all children get access to life-saving vaccination services and other essential preventive health services. A fully vaccinated child is protected against the most common deadly childhood diseases; such as diarrhoea, pneumonia, measles, tuberculosis, hepatitis B (among others).

In Uganda, only 52% of children under 5 are fully vaccinated. We want to change that by implementing MyChild System for effective registration and follow up of all children. Together with local and supporting partners and your help we can make it happen!

How can you help?
Do you have a fundraising idea? Now is the time to put it into work . You can donate the money you raised here. We would also love to hear from you. Tell us how you made it happened and what the response was from those who helped you out! Were there any challenges or do you have great fundraising ideas to share with the community?

Last year, we at Shifo shared our birthdays in order to fundraise for the Every Child Counts in Mukono campaign. Together with some of our partners and our support network we raised enough funds to make the first implementation in 16 health centres. A big THANK YOU to all of our partners and supporters who made Mukono implementation possible!

You can follow the progress in Mukono here. Sharing your birthday is fun and easy, check out Nargis’ birthday campaign for some inspiration.

If you want to make a long-term commitment and become a monthly supporter you can do it here. 100% of funds raised will go to the campaign for the Central Region of Uganda. You will be able to follow the progress at Every Child Counts in Central Uganda campaign page

The aim of this campaign is to raise 10 million Swedish Kronor (1.4 Million USD/ 1.1 Million Euro). With these funds and in collaboration with our local partners we can implement the system in at least 200 health clinics in the region and reach 1 million children. In July, Shifo received funds from the Swedish Postcode Lottery to implement MyChild System in 30 health centres in Uganda. The Swedish Postcode Lottery has agreed that these funds will be used to kick start the Central Region campaign with implementation of 30 health centres starting in the Wakiso District, which is next to Mukono.

During the last few months, Shifo has strengthened the service coordination team (SCT) in Uganda who have worked hard together with local partners to investigate the readiness of health centres in two regions: Busoga (Part of Eastern Region) and Central Region.

The SCT have identified the Central Region as being most strategic for scaling up the implementation of MyChild System and have suggested starting implementation at 30 health centres in Wakiso District. Wakiso District is the largest district in Uganda. It has a population of 1.5 million people, and 64,000 children under the age of one. There are currently 67 public health centres in Wakiso of which 50 have electricity. The fact that Wakiso District is next to Mukono facilitates easy knowledge-sharing between the district, sharing of best practices and building of competence for scaling up further within the Central Region.

Shifo wants to support local partners in reducing vaccination dropouts and ensure that all children get access to the important health services. MyChild System is best implemented in pace with the implementation of the national rural electrification project. By working strategically with health centres that are technically prepared we reach more children faster and help develop services which can be provided to other districts once electrification is in place.

We are very grateful to the Swedish Postcode Lottery for their support and Safello who recently started a bitcoin campaign to raise funds for Central Region.

We welcome new partners Julia Silvermane and Panea. Thank you for supporting the campaign!

100% of funds raised through this campaign will go to the implementation of the MyChild information and support system in Uganda and you can follow the status of the project in real time under the Every Child Counts in Central Uganda

Join the effort today and help us reach 1 000 000 children under the age of five living in the region!

Together we can make it happen!
