TCS participates in Helsinki City Run to support Finnish Paralympics Team

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) promotes health and well-being among its employees. Therefore, the company is taking part in the Helsinki City Run (HCR) half marathon, this year with 70 runners. Leveraging the occasion, the company also wants to engage with society by donating for a good cause. This year, TCS will donate five euros for each kilometer that its employees run in the HCR to the Finnish Paralympics Committee, whose athletes are preparing for the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The members of the TCS team at HCR can be recognized by their T-shirts with the print: We’re on the Road to Rio 2016 with the Finnish Paralympics Team.
”For us, TCS’ support is important in two major ways,” says Tiina Kivisaari, General Secretary of the Finnish Paralympics Committee. ”First, it’s great to get visibility at an event of this scale. Second, TCS sets an example to the business community by supporting a cause of social significance.”
TCS has noticed the major steps that have been taken in enabling para sports, at the same time recognizing that a great deal more remains to be done. By supporting the Finnish Paralympic Committee, TCS wants to endorse the work the Committee does for the greater benefit of the entire Finnish sports culture.
”Behind each medal, there’s always a larger group of people”, says Toni Piispanen, wheelchair racing gold medalist on 100 meters in the London Paralympics, 2012. ”In Finland, like across the world, the paralympic disciplines are gaining in popularity. This means that the resources for the top athletes are now more secure than some years back. However, there is a wider audience engaging in sports, and it is important that as many as possible get the opportunity to improve themselves as sportsmen. Therefore, the help of the business community is very important.”
TCS supports numerous global societal initiatives that promote skills development, sustainability, health and well-being. TCS is the main sponsor for the Berlin Marathon, TCS New York Marathon and TCS Amsterdam Marathon. With the last, TCS also supports the marathon’s official charity, the VUmc Cancer Center Amsterdam.
”Paralympic stars have trained to become top athletes, but they have also overcome the challenge of disability,” says Ruchikar Dalela, Country Manager, TCS Finland. ”In the Paralympics, we see more or less superhuman efforts. The paralympic heroes, as well our employees taking part in the Helsinki City Run, are an inspiration to more than 319,000 TCSers around the world.”
