‘What’s Cooking?’ - Discover the hidden secrets of food at TEDxStockholmSalon #3/2014

Ebba Åkerman will be sharing her brilliant idea of organizing dinners where new bonds and friendships may be created between immigrants and native Swedes. Mats-Eric Nilsson will reveal the unpleasant truth by explaining what we consume on our plates and how the food industry is constantly deceiving us. To add to the mix, the importance of traditional Swedish cooking techniques and going back to the basics will be introduced by Niklas Ekstedt who is on his way to create a new style of cooking by moving the Swedish food industry in an interesting direction. Last but not least, Dorotea Malmegård  will be speaking about food as a social activity by pointing out that gathering, cooking and eating are the core of social interaction.

About the speakers: 

Ebba Åkerman 

Ebba Åkerman is an optimist consultant currently heading the Department of Invitations. Before becoming a Minister of Dinners, she ran Nanoismer, The Meatball Academy and a blog called “I wanna make out with you all the time!” She has a M.Sc. in Sustainable Enterprising and a B.A. in Art History.

Mats-Eric Nilsson 

Mats-Eric Nilsson is a prize-winning Swedish investigative reporter and author who has sparked a long-lasting and profound debate on food additives and adulterated foodstuffs in Nordic countries. His best-selling books have both influenced consumers to change their habits and has compelled producers to reformulate their products. 

In his latest book, he shows how restaurants cheat their customers by using ingredients straight from the factory while pretending everything is “home-cooked” in the kitchen. He is a seasoned lecturer and appears regularly in television and other media. Currently, he is Editor-in-Chief of the new Swedish food magazine Hunger.

Niklas Ekstedt

Swedish chef-patron, TV-presenter and best-selling cookery book author, shows astonishing creativity, producing elegant food using long-lost Swedish cooking techniques and burning wood as his only source of heat.

Since 2003, Niklas Ekstedt has hosted a popular cooking show on Swedish national television. His latest show “Niklas Mat” saw him visiting some of the world’s most exciting culinary destinations where he met Sean Brock, Massimo Bottura and Elena Arzak amongst others.

Dorotea Malmegård 

Dorotea Malmegård has spent a year preparing delicacies for hungry mouths both across Sweden and the USA before starting her own catering business in Stockholm. Dorotea’s skills lie behind major social events including Royal celebrations.

Dorotea has been involved in photographing and producing recipes in two cookbooks for Moderaterna, printed in over 100.000 editions in Stockholm.

The third TEDxStockholmSalon event of 2014: ‘What’s Cooking?’ will take place on June 16th at Summit Grev Turegatan 30 in Stockholm.
