TEDxStockholm Announces “Crossroads” Event

Stockholm, 25 October 2016. TEDxStockholm has now announced more details of an event to be held in Stockholm on 21 November. Themed “Crossroads - the beginning of every direction”, the event will feature live talks about ideas worth spreading presented by speakers from many different fields in design, entertainment, and technology. The event will be in English.

Speakers will focus on ideas resulting from the divergence of seemingly unrelated worlds, converging to create new synergies in how we perceive the world and everyday life.

Names and details of the speakers lined up for this event will be announced by TEDxStockholm in the weeks before 21 November. Five of the event speakers have already been announced: Alexander Ekman, Truls Nord, Eva-Karin Gidlund, Milène Larsson and David JP Phillips .

Alexander Ekman is an International choreographer / Director creating pieces for opera houses, theaters and museums. He also directs films and music videos as well as live performances in pop up locations. Ekman is known for his fast paced timing, witty humor and clever transitions. He aims to create work which the majority can relate and connect with. Since 2006, he has devoted his time creating pieces which both entertain and question the observer. He aims to transform the atmosphere in the audience, and to always surprise and entertain the audience.

A researcher on the effects of exercise on a molecular level, Eva-Karin Gidlund works at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Karolinska Institutet. Eva-Karin’s passion for sports and human biology research have awarded her several scholarships, and made her a frequent lecturer and public science profile outside of the academia. Ultimately her passion is what makes her an excellent TED-profile. A personal motto of Eva-Karin’s is “little is better than none.” In her talk Eva-Karin will bring us the vital science worthy knowing whenever we exercise, or perhaps even more, when we chose not to.

Truls Nord is an artist working with film, photographs and installations, with the intention to inspire, encourage or push his audience to lead a personal, economical and ecological sustainable life. In 2011 Truls initiated and lead the project Tactile Photography, where a new method for creating tactile photographs was developed. The method makes it possible for people without sight to experience both content and atmosphere in photographs and other complex images, which makes it unique among ways to create tactile images.

Truls is co-founder of FLUST, an organization promoting artistic diversity, accessibility and civic engagement through collaborative projects.

Journalist and documentary filmmaker Milène Larsson has been working for VICE since 2004. She’s been the Scandinavian editor and European Managing Editor of VICE Magazine and now she primarily produces and hosts documentaries for VICE News, such as the award-winning films Young and Gay in Putin’s Russia, Israel’s Radical Left and Istanbul Rising, and the British Media Awards winning documentary series on the humanitarian and political crisis unfolding at Europe’s borders Europe or Die, born out of an on-going commitment to document the efforts of those risking their lives to reach Europe and the forces tasked to keep them out.

David JP Phillips is an international speaker, author and coach in Modern Presentation Skills. He bases his training and materials on the background of neuroscience and biology which makes his deliveries very hands on, practical and motivational. He is best known for his seminar “How To Avoid Death By PowerPoint” delivered at TEDx in 2014.

Crossroads will be held at the Münchenbryggeriet in Södermalm, at Torkel Knutssongatan 2, 1118 25 Stockholm. The nearest Tunnelbana station is Mariatorget (Torkel Knutssongatan exit). About TEDxStockholm

Inspired by the spirit of “ideas worth spreading”, the TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals to spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences. TEDx events are planned and coordinated independently by local volunteers, under a free license granted by TED and include both live speakers and TED event videos. One of the first organizers of local TEDx events in the world, TEDxStockholm has organized twenty-five events since the first on 6 June 2009 and organizes both major events with live speakers and regular “Salon” events.
