Larsson clinches best result in Audi Sport TT Cup

  • Swede’s recovery ends in ninth place in race one of Audi one-make cup
  • Marschall and Lappalainen win races at Audi’s home round
  • WEC driver Lucas di Grassi dominates guest entrants’ classification at the Norisring
  • Ingolstadt/Nuremberg, June 26, 2016 – Simon Larsson leaves the Norisring with a boost. Finishing race five of the Audi Sport TT Cup season at the Norisring in position nine, the 19-year- old Swede clinched his best result in the Audi one-make cup.

I’m very happy that on this challenging track I achieved a result that was a good one for me,” said Larsson who still sees room for improvement though. “Unfortunately, I had braking issues in qualifying that cost me a better grid position. That’s a bitter pill, especially on a track like the Norisring where overtaking is difficult. In race one, everything on my car was right. In race two, I was struggling with oversteer and didn’t get beyond position 12. That’s a shame because I’m sure there was more potential for me. Even after this weekend, my confidence in my Audi TT cup keeps growing. At Zandvoort, I’d like to finish in the top ten again.

At the front of the field, Dennis Marschall and Joonas Lappalainen dominated the action at the Norisring. Marschall celebrated an uncontested lights-to-flag victory in race one. The second race on the calendar’s only city street circuit delivered maximum suspense. Lappalainen achieved his first victory this season, ahead of his Finnish compatriot Emil Lindholm and Marschall. FIA WEC driver Lucas di Grassi was the dominant contender in the guest entrants’ classification. The Audi factory driver secured victory in both races.

The 2.3-kilometer circuit that is the shortest one on the Audi Sport TT Cup race calendar again proved to be one of the most challenging tracks. Dennis Marschall is leaving Nuremberg as the new overall leader with a score of 124 points. Larsson, with 45 points, is ranked in position eleven. The series continues with the first foreign round held at Circuit Park Zandvoort in the Netherlands. The fourth in a total of seven race weekends will be held from July 15 to 17.
