Primelog launches Green Performance

New solution provides deeper insights in companies’ climate effects related to logistics

Primelog is now launching a new module for Primelog TMS, a standardized solution developed by the firm to manage complex logistics flows. The new module, called Primelog Green Performance, provides companies with better prerequisites to analyze, report and eventually reduce their carbon footprint throughout the supply chain.

Primelog presented its new solution, Primelog Green Performance at the Ecotransport 2030 trade fair, which was organized by Miljörapporten (Environmental Report). This solution gives companies the ability to automatically analyze their carbon footprint based on real data from their logistics operations and updated measurement parameters, instead of the old standard values that were assumed to apply to all companies.

“Many companies have begun to look at how they can measure their carbon footprint, but these measurements are often too simple to be truly effective,” says Magnus Molin, Technical Director at Primelog. “With our new solution, the calculation model is automatically updated with the latest information from measurement parameters. This means that the analysis is always based on the most realistic values available, which also provides much better decision support.”

“We’re the first out with this type of application and we see a large demand for increased precision and automation in how carbon footprints are calculated within logistics. For example, one of our clients – Sandvik has already started working with the new calculation model. With new exact measurements they not only increase their opportunities for reducing their carbon footprint, but also get better decision support for planning transport purchases, based on what is most effective for both the environment and their budget.

The new calculation model in Primelog Green Performance is based on a method developed by the Network for Transport Measures (NTM), an organization for buyers and sellers of transport services that was initiated in 1993 in order to create a common set of values for how environmental performance should be calculated for a variety of transport methods.

“We are very pleased that Primelog is the first to use our new platform in order to apply our methods and data in Primelog Green Performance,” says Magnus Swahn from NTM. “We now hope that additional actors will follow and build this functionality into a variety of business systems. A company’s carbon footprint should be viewed from both an environmental and a financial perspective; the first step is to shed light on their logistics operations. Which routes, transport modes, or types of shipments generate which kinds of climate effects? When you know the answer, you can begin to take action on improving and streamlining.”

Primelog Green Performance is available now and can be provided as a standalone solution or as an optional module for current users of Primelog TMS.
