‘As I Died Lying’ Collective writing group embark on their first novel as 15 writers become one.

Has it been done before? A group of writers forming one novel? They don’t think so. Dark Angels are a diverse bunch of writers who have come together through the Dark Angels writing programme to work on this exciting and very much collaborative project. They have been through three course levels together and are now embarking on their second united project: a collective novel.

So, how do you do that? Using William Faulkner’s novel ‘As I Lay Dying’ as inspiration, due to its multiple character viewpoints, these writers began their first novel together whilst away in an interesting and remote Scottish country house for a long weekend. Immediately, they started to use their environment to create characters and they soon embarked upon a story about a woman who dies in a Scottish country house.

‘As I Died Lying’ has some comic, poetic, psychological and philosophical possibilities and they cannot wait to share it with you.

One of the authors of the new novel is Julian Stubbs, one of the founders of Stockholm based UP THERE, EVERYWHERE. 'It's a really unique project' he said. 'We don't think a collectively written novel has ever been created like this before and with UP's cloud based approach the idea of a crowd funded book really appealed to me as well. It was also great fun writing my characters piece.' Stubbs, who has been involved with the Dark Angels writing group for several years, published his first book in 2011, which was a business book called Wish You Were Here, focussing on his branding work for the city of Stockholm.
