Place & City Branding in Focus

Julian Stubbs, the man behind the branding of Stockholm as The Capital of Scandinavia, was the keynote speaker at the  Eskilstuna breakfast club meeting this past Tuesday morning. Over 100 people heard Stubbs talk about the branding of cities and destinations. The topic was covered by local press, TV and radio. 

Stubbs said 'Place branding as a topic is really in focus at the moment. With a flattened world destinations compete like never before for tourism, inward investment and as a place to attract people to live.'

The city of Oslo has also recently approached Stubbs and his company *UP There,Everywhere to work with their own city branding project. This assignment comes from Oslo Metropolitan Area. Stubbs has also worked with the branding of Sigtuna.

Stubbs, who is English, is an international brand strategist and apart from his branding work for Stockholm and other destinations, he has worked with brand and identity projects for clients such as Technicolor, the Hollywood movie company, and the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, which is held annually every December in Oslo. His book, published in 2011, on destination branding called Wish You Were Here examines the issues in building a strong place brand and focuses on his work in developing the Stockholm brand. 

Stubbs is also one of the founders of *UP There, Everywhere, a global brand and communications consulting group with 130 people.
