WEREL LAUNCHING LEASING PACKAGE FOR SOLAR ENERGY WITH STORAGE AND SHARING ECONOMY

Werel is introducing the Nordic Light Package, the first complete leasing offer for production, storage and sharing of solar energy in Sweden. Werel is estimated to deliver and install 10,000 units for leasing to households in Sweden, starting in 2017.

“We will deliver a full service leasing package with the best hard ware available on the market. The customer is released from all the hassle and will long term benefit from totally clean solar energy for free. All Nordic Light units are connected in a smart network where they can communicate and share the produced solar energy in the most efficient way for the customer thanks to the unique Werel algoritms. In a way we are building the largest solar power plant in the Nordics,” said Peter Swartling, CEO and co-founder of Werel.

Werel’s Nordic Light Package is a leasing offer that includes solar panels, a household battery and a smart unit that can communicate with all other Werel units. It autonomously trades energy within the community in a sharing economy set-up.

“This is the first step towards the energy of the future and the lifestyle that comes with it. Electricity as a commodity that will come for free and with a no limit supply when enough households are producing and sharing their clean energy. This will happen in a not to far away future and it will drastically change our society and the way we live our lives. This is a journey that Werel wants to kick-off and join,” said Peter Swartling

AFFORDABLE LEASING PACKAGE

The Nordic Light Package will be launched as a leasing offer only. This lifts off the heavy investment from the customer. For a normal villa in Sweden the investment for only solar panels and a household battery hits somewhere around SEK 250 000.

The monthly leasing fee for the Nordic Light Package starts at SEK 1499, and includes all the technical equipment installed in the home. The leasing contract is running for ten years, and after this the customer will have all solar energy for free.

“The Nordic Light Package is designed to make everything as easy and as convenient as possible for the customer. Werel is taking care of all the hassle. The customer doesn’t have to think about investments, installation, labour costs and all the bureaucracy that comes with a normal purchase. There is only a flat rate running cost for the technical equipment to be handled. This is not only a convenient, affordable and completely clean energy deal. It’s a really smart deal as well,” said Peter Swartling.

The package includes 60 m² of solar panels, a household battery storing 5-15 kWh, and a smart unit that plan for storage or trade of self produced electricity based on the household’s usage patterns. The unit is connected with other Nordic Light units and interacts autonomously within the network. All together the units create a self communicating power plant with a growing storage capacity.

BUILT FOR SHARING ECONOMY

The over capacity of energy produced by the household is shared within the Werel network. In this way the customer is able to build up a balance of energy for future usage. For example to balance between summer and winter where production might fluctuate.

While the Werel network is growing bigger, the need for external power support into the network will reduce.

“This network model with built-in sharing grows stronger and more clean by each new unit connected. However, already some 100 or 200 units will be able to operate without external power support for most of the time. The most important focus area for us have been the development of the unique Werel algoritms in collaboration with our suppliers and partners,” said Alexander Mathisen Öhman, COO and responsible for the Nordic Light technical development.

Werel also builds a community where all customers within the network becomes members and are able to share energy with each other.

“The introduction of micro production of energy and a decentralised energy industry, in combination with energy storage and sharing economy, is by far the biggest transformation of an industry since the introduction of the PC, internet and the smart phone. Were are here to make a change, and I’m connect that Werel’s model for energy sharing will change the view of what a power company can offer,” said Alexander Mathisen Öhman.

ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE

The Nordic Light Package is Werel’s first response to the energy challenges and alarming climate threats that Europe and the world are facing at the moment.

According to the UNFCCC Paris Agreement the challenge is to address emissions, adopt societies for clean technology and create means for people to chose clean alternatives in order to slow down global warming.

“The Nordic Light Package actually addresses all these areas as I see it: Solar panels address emissions, smart homes and sharing economy address the adaptation of societies, and the leasing offer address the creation of means, since it makes it both easier and more affordable for the big majority of house owners. In the end it’s all about start rebuilding our society and prepare for a sustainable future for our children and grandchildren,” said Peter Swartling.
