Eco Wood Decking Vs Composite Decking

Composite wood, also know as WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) is considered as the latest edition in the deckingindustry. It is usually made up of a composite of wood and plastic fibre contents to make it resilient to weather. However, it also imposes some disadvantages as compared to using natural eco wood as decking materials.

Here are some of the common disadvantages for of composite decking:

1) Algae Growth

Especially when the composite deck is frequently in contact with rain and sunshine, if the fibre contents  of the composite deck is too much; it will tend to grow algae and fungi on the gaps and surfaces of the deck. Natural eco wood, on the other hand, has stronger resistance to fungi decay.

2) Chips Off Easily

Low quality composite decks have too much plastic contents in its composite, hence it will cause the decking board to crack and chip off easily due to changes of temperature.

3) Harmful to Children Health

Drop a cigarette butt onto natural wood deck, at most it will burn a small hole on it. However, if you drop a cigarette onto a composite deck, it will burn the plastic and causing formation of fumes which are toxic and harmful to health. Hence, families with children have to be careful when living with it.

4) If composite decks are installed on a pool deck, on a hot sunny day, you can see barefooted people "dancing" around the pool. This is because heat trapped inside composite decking easily causing the decking to be super hot during summer or high temperature season.

Opposite to composite decking is eco decking. Eco friendly wooden decking materials such as Accoya wood, because of its natural characteristics and durability; it is considered as a smart option for home owners today who are looking for a safe and environmentally options to beautiful their decks.
