Press Release   •   Feb 28, 2013 17:02 +08

Engineered wood flooring has become one of the most sought after luxurious wood flooring product today; compare to solid wood flooring; engineered wood has relatively better structural integrity, dimensional stability, quality is more well balanced; most engineered wood flooring products come in strips and wide planks; unlike solid wood which is difficult to achieve.

Despite all of this, home owners need to find a good quality engineered wood product that is suitable for their home and climatic conditions.

Here are the ways to find a good quality and suitable engineered wood flooring product.

1) Sanding vs Buffing

When buying engineered wood flooring products, it is good to be clear about the difference between sanding and buffing. Sanding has the effect of revarnishing the entire flooring. While buffing is not able to. In order woods, good quality engineered wood flooring can be refurnish into a fresh look at least once to twice. While lower quality engineered wood is not able to.

In this way, home owners can enjoy long term cost savings in getting quality engineered wood than lower quality engineered wood.

2) "Sandwich" Core is it suitable for the climatic atmosphere?

When choosing engineered wood flooring, it is very important to look at the core of the flooring board. Some lower quality engineered wood flooring use high density fibre (HDF) board or low quality plywood which is not very resistant to high moisture level. So it is highly important to look for engineered wood flooring that has core wood that is resistant and better acclimatized to the climatic condition.

For example, Hevea (rubber wood) core engineered wood will be more suitable for indoor areas in tropical climatic countries.

3) Coating Layers

Wood coating determines wear and tear resistance of the flooring board; especially in the long run. Two things to take note; firstly, make sure there is at least more than 5 layers of coat applied on the engineered wood during its manufacturing process. Moreover, make sure that the coating used is environmentally friendly such that it will not affect the indoor air quality especially when the flooring is installed in enclosed areas.

4) Sustainanble Source

Look for reliable contractors who only get their products from credible suppliers that source the raw material from sustainable resources in the global forests. By having a piece of sustainable wood flooring in your home, not only it can help to beautify your living spaces, you can also do your little part to the global sustainable environment.
