What is a Quality Engineered Wood Flooring?

A good quality engineered wood uses real wood instead of a whole piece of solid wood. It consists of multiple ply layers, which are glued together unlike a whole solid piece of hardwood. The top surface uses a thicker hardwood which is available in most hardwood species. Though engineered wood is not made up of 100% wood layers, the top layer is design hardwood and the core component below uses Hevea, pine or any strong durable material, which also makes it more stable and it comes in a pre-finished form. The back layer is usually made up of ply wood.

Features of Engineered Wood Flooring

1)  Structurally  Stable

A good example of good quality engineered wood is B.K.B Engineered Wood that uses Hevea as its core layer that solves a lot of swelling and warping of your engineered flooring unlike most other engineered wood which usually uses phosphorus, artificial high density fiberboard or ply wood. With this feature and its layering design, your flooring will be able to withstand your surrounding climate such as heavy moisture, temperature and humidity.

2)  Installation of Engineered Wood

An advantage of Engineered Wood is that you are able to install it to any room you wish to, like basement, thanks to the Hevea feature that allows your engineered wood to withstand the heavy moisture of your basement or air conditioned room. Installation can also be done directly over concrete surface only if the floor is leveled. It is designed to be installed easily using a floating system where no nails or screws are needed.

3)  Re-Varnishing & Eco Friendly

Engineered wood comes in a pre-finished form, it has already been kiln dried (de-moisture) and sanded before installation, which means a less messy and easier installation process. There will also be less fumes and dust associated with sanding and varnishing. Usual engineered wood will be at 2.2mm whilst BKB Engineered Wood is at 3.5mm which is thicker than most engineered wood in the market, thus such thickness allows the owner to re-varnish the floor more than once. Hevea is also a fast growing species which its resources are eco-renewable.

As technology improves, re-engineered wood (REW) has emerged into the market as a strong substitute to traditional parquet and veneer wood. Not losing its specs, its wear layer maintaining at 2.5mm which is higher than usual standards, and also have the core properties of normal engineered wood. Re-engineered wood (REW) is also cost savings and Eco- friendly, comes in 4 different colours which suits our tropical country.

Therefore using a good quality eco engineered wood will have a longer life spend and at the same time contribute to the eco-environment.

So, stay green!
