Synopsis:
TheatreWorks is proud to present its Writers’ Lab Writing & Community Programme Performance Tour of Marco Polo from 27 Feb 2014 to 29 Mar 2014 to various venues at the South East District! Written by Jovi Tan Yit Long, Marco Polo is the winning play from the 24-Hour Playwriting Competition 2013 (Youth Category)!

Marco Polo, on Hoping & Forgiving, tells a story of two blind friends who are reacquainted after death. They quickly discover that they are both still blind and proceed with their attempt to figure out if they ended up in Heaven or Hell. Amidst the uncertainty, they begin to understand what it is to be lonesome, fearful and utterly lost. As the friends try to recapture the emotions invested in the lives of the living and within oneself, they uncover a sense of hope and, above all, love.

The staging of Marco Polo is part of the TheatreWorks Writing & Community Programme is a process-based programme which evolved from the TheatreWorks Writers’ Lab that began in 1990.

Firstly, It identifies new potential playwrights from the community through its annual 24-Hour Playwriting Competition. Next, the winning playwrights are nurtured by theatre professionals to develop their scripts into productions. These productions are then staged and returned to the community through the programme’s annual Performance Tour series primarily in South East District. TheatreWorks has partnered the South East CDC in this unique programme since 2008.
