BritCham Breakfast Club: The London of Asia

BritCham invites NBAS members to join their Breakfast Club: The London of Asia event.

Surely Singapore is the "London of Asia". A quick internet search shows various pretenders: Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Rangoon.

What business people really mean is the City of London, and its prominent role in trade and finance. At this breakfast talk, Michael Syn, the Executive Vice President and Head of Derivatives at SGX will share some observations on Singapore's progress in developing its market infrastructure to inhabit the role of "London of Asia".

The audience will gain an understanding of the development of Singapore's market infrastructure and progress as an offshore trading and clearing hub for Asia.

About the Speaker

Mr Michael Syn is Executive Vice President and Head of Derivatives at SGX.

He oversees SGX's growth in the trading and clearing of Asian derivatives, anchored on its multi-award winning Equity and Commodity businesses. He also leads SGX's product innovation efforts in Foreign Exchange and Power & Gas, as well as platform innovation in Asian OTC clearing.

Mr Syn joined SGX on 1 March 2011 with a background in investment banking and investment management, working in both London and Singapore. His previous role before joining SGX was as Chief Operating Officer of DBS Asset Management, a subsidiary of DBS Bank, where he oversaw the regional management of the firm.

Mr Syn graduated with MA and PhD degrees from Gonville & Caius College in Cambridge University.
