Norwegian Maritime Authority developments

In April, NBAS hosted a lunch talk with the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA). Our guests thoroughly enjoyed hearing from Caroline Stensland, Lars Alvestad and Svein David Medhaug from the NMA about the developments of the Norwegian Flag administration, including the green shift, digitalisation, zero emission vessels, technology and safety.

Hygge evening

How could this event not succeed with the name Hygge (a feeling of belonging to the moment and to each other; celebrating the everyday). Together with the Norwegian Embassy in Singapore and the Norwegian Seaman’s Mission, NBAS welcomed their guests with traditional Norwegian prawns, entertainment and a great party atmosphere. We are already looking forward to our next social event!

Singapore employment regulations

NBAS, SwedCham Singapore, the Danish Business Association and the Finnish Business Council co-hosted an event in May about employment regulations: challenges and solutions. Dr Bob Aubrey, Samuel Yuen, Emil Akander, Anders Ranchil, Jens Mundbjerg and Lotta Patrickson provided our guests with an excellent overview of the employment regulations in Singapore. Their first-hand experience, knowledge and expertise made for a very interesting and educative evening.

AGM Tax talk

NBAS had a great turn out our Annual General Meeting in March. We welcomed two new NBAS board members to our team, Rigmor Berthier, CEO and Co-Founder from Lime Agency and Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, Regional Manager South East Asia, Pacific & India at DNV GL - Maritime. We appreciate the continued support from all our members/board members and look forward to a productive new year.

During the event, Erland Nørstebø, Head of Global Mobility at PwC gave us an educative Norwegian tax talk, which provided our guests with key information about the taxation regulations for Norwegians living abroad.

Half the Sky event

Our guests were inspired and full of positive energy following our Trailing Spouses: Back to Work event with Sabrina Ho from Half The Sky in June. Sabrina provided our guests with detailed information about how to re-enter the workforce after a break, where to start, how to network with the right companies, and how to tailor your CV to the Norwegian/Singaporean markets. We truly appreciated Sabrina’s positivity, know-how and CV/interview tips!

NBAS Executive Director updates

Anders Hegre has been appointed as the new Executive Director at NBAS, succeeding Silje Kalsaas who held the position for the past 2.5 years. Anders holds a master’s degree in political science and has 25 years of experience working in the public sector, with private companies and leading organisations.

“I am grateful that NBAS has chosen me for this position and am looking forward to contributing to the continued success of NBAS and the Norwegian business community,” stated Anders.

We would like to thank Silje for her hard work and dedication at NBAS. We wish her all the best with her move back to Norway.
