Mobile advertising breaking through in Japan

Tremendous growth opportunities says industry leader Smaato

Tokyo / Singapore, 18 September 2013 - Japan has always been the world’s largest market for mobile advertising, with spending hitting $2.02 billion in 2013 , giving it tremendous opportunities for growth, mainly due to the cohesive nature of the mobile industry in Japan where it has over 80 affiliate network providers servicing the mobile space.

“We see tremendous growth opportunities in Japan and that’s also what we hear from our partners and customers who we’re engaging with at Ad:Tech Tokyo from 18-19 September 2013, one of the world’s largest digital marketing events,” said Marcus Tan, Managing Director, Asia Pacific of Smaato, the leading global mobile Real Time Bidding (RTB) ad exchange and mobile Supply Side Platform (SSP). “

One of the phenomenon within this space has been real-time bidding (RTB) advertising which is known to have better behavioural targeting abilities, an automated process, more data transparency and overall cost-efficiencies. In Asia itself, real time advertising is expected to increase to 20% of display advertising in 2015 from just 3% in 2012 and this shows that growth is set to escalate soon because more display media buys are expected to come through RTB.
