SilkAir Customers Able to Get Latest Travel Information with Google Now

SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, has integrated flight status notifications with Google Now to offer customers the latest information on their flights.

Google Now is a service introduced as part of the Google Search App to provide you with the right information, at the right time. SilkAir customers who make their bookings through http://www.silkair.com/ and specify their Gmail address in their booking will be able to view travel information such as their departure terminal, gate, time as well as flight status. This service will also give customers useful information about their respective travel destinations such as the weather and traffic. This information will be updated in Google Now several hours before a customer’s flight departure.

Google Now is available on the Google Search App that can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices from the Apple App store and the Google Play Store respectively, and is built-in to Android 4.1+ devices. Users will then have to log into the Google Search App with their Gmail account to activate the Google Now features.

SilkAir’s parent company, Singapore Airlines had announced last December that bookings made on www.singaporeair.com have been integrated with Google Now.

“We are pleased to have taken this step to integrate the bookings made on our website with Google Now. We are confident that this will further enhance the travel experience of our passengers as they are able to receive important travel information conveniently.” said SilkAir Vice President Commercial, Mr Ryan Pua.

About SilkAir

As the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, SilkAir operates the Singapore Airlines Group's narrowbody fleet and extends the Group network by seeding and developing new, exciting destinations in Asia Pacific.

The airline took to the skies in February 1989 as Tradewinds the Airline, before evolving into SilkAir in 1992. In its early days, the airline catered to passengers holidaying in exotic destinations in the region, including Phuket and Tioman. As the carrier developed, regional business destinations such as Phnom Penh, Yangon and Kuala Lumpur were added.

Today, the full service airline operates more than 350 weekly flights to 47 destinations in 12 countries. Recent additions to the network include Yogyakarta (November 2013), Kalibo (May 2014) and Mandalay (June 2014). SilkAir's network will increase to 48 when Hangzhou commences operation at the end of June 2014. The airline currently has a fleet of 26 aircraft, comprising 6 A319s and 16 A320s and 4 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. In August 2012, the airline announced the largest order in its history of up to 68 Boeing 737 aircraft, with firm orders comprising 23 Boeing 737-800s and 31 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.
