Community comes on board to celebrate the launch of Ang Mo Kio Xchange and upgraded Station

SMRT launches the new Ang Mo Kio Xchange and upgraded Station that provide our customers the RITE experience: new retail options, better station infrastructure, enhanced transit experience for our commuters and improved eco-friendly features. With an improved iMOB-Shop e-commerce transit platform, SMRT is enhancing the lifestyle experience at Ang Mo Kio Station and Xchange with more offerings for value and convenience.

Get the RITE experience at Ang Mo Kio

Retail experience: Residents living around Ang Mo Kio Station will enjoy more retail amenities with 12 new outlets offering food and beverage, dental, medical, banking and financial services. Convenience stores and automatic teller machines will now be accessible to customers even after service hours.

Infrastructure upgrades: The new Ang Mo Kio Station will see improved facilities such as extended shelter entrances and linkways that circle the station, and will provide greater protection from inclement weather. Two ramps have been installed to offer accessibility to the less mobile. Bicycle racks for about a hundred bicycles have been relocated to a sheltered area, and the toilets have been upgraded with green features that help conserve water.

Transit experience: Reflecting a strong commitment to service excellence, SMRT has extended its customer service enhancement initiatives with Priority Queues, Care Zones and Free Charging Zones, and is working closely with the community to encourage the “right ride etiquette”. SMRT is proud to announce that Anderson Secondary School has adopted Ang Mo Kio Station under SMRT’s Adopt-A-Station programme. This is a community engagement programme that pairs schools with nearby MRT stations and where Student Service Ambassadors will work with our Customer Service Ambassadors to promote a gracious commuting experience.

Eco-station: SMRT achieved a BCA Green Mark (Gold) Award for Ang Mo Kio Station, its second Eco-station after Woodlands. Ang Mo Kio Xchange has also adopted Project: Eco-Shop and tenants have fitted out their shops in environmentally sustainable ways and will continue to implement eco-friendly practices in their daily operations.

“The new Ang Mo Kio Xchange and upgraded Station will be a new focal point for residents of Ang Mo Kio, as well as the Central Singapore District. Improved accessibility features will benefit the young, the old and those with disabilities. New shop units and green features have also breathed new life into the area. I am happy to see that SMRT has been working closely with the community to make their train journeys even more comfortable. The Adopt-A-Station programme is particularly important as it helps to engage our schools in a meaningful community outreach mission. I am confident these improvements will translate into a fresh new commuting experience for our residents", said guest-of-honour Ms Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore District.

“Twenty-seven years ago, Ang Mo Kio Station was among the first set of operational stations on the North-South Line. Today, we are proud to renew this station with better retail, infrastructure, transit experience, and eco-friendly station improvements. At the same time, we are continuing with concerted efforts to improve rail service and reliability. Ang Mo Kio Station was part of Phase 1 of the Sleeper Replacement Programme that has been completed. Over the next few months, we will be progressively lifting the safety restrictions on train speed over the Admiralty to Ang Mo Kio stretch. Together with the addition of 13 new trains on the North South East West Lines, commuters can look forward to a shorter travelling time and smoother travel experience. I would like to thank the residents of Ang Mo Kio for the strong support they have given to SMRT as my team worked hard to bring about these enhancements in commuter experience”, said Mr Desmond Kuek, President and Group CEO of SMRT.

I’m on Board with iMOB-Shop

iMOB-Shop, SMRT’s latest e-commerce initiative, is a singular online platform that integrates advertising, digital and retail businesses. It offers convenient and immediate access to lifestyle deals in and around SMRT’s transport network.

With iMOB-Shop, the shopping experience with SMRT and its rewards are now extended online and integrated with physical stores – offering more popular brands and specialty goods and services. Offering a suite of products and services online over nine major lifestyle categories, iMOB-Shop attracts commuters who are constantly on the move as they can grab deals broadcast island-wide across the entire public transport network.

“While we improve our Stations and Xchanges, we will continue to adopt and integrate new digital technologies that will enhance the overall travel experience of our commuters. iMOB-Shop is an interactive space where you can shop, play and dine on-the-go. Through iMOB-Shop, we want to offer our customers and commuters lifestyle conveniences and services that are integral to their lives”, added Ms Dawn Low, Managing Director of SMRT’s commercial business unit.

To commemorate the occasion, SMRT will run a Shop & Dine “Opening Specials @ AMK Xchange” campaign where consumers get to enjoy Ang Mo Kio Opening promotions from tenants from 7 to 30 November 2014. To encourage shoppers to Go Green, consumers get to redeem a free foldable fan when they bring their own bag (BYOB). This part of our efforts to inculcate green values in the community.
