Press release -

Update on 18 December 2013 Circle Line Power Failure

A power trip failure occurred on the Circle Line (CCL) between Stadium and HarbourFront MRT stations at 11.21pm on the 18th of December. For passenger safety, those on board were detrained to the emergency walkways at Caldecott and Tai Seng MRT stations. Free bus services and bus bridging services were activated within 20 minutes between Mountbatten and HarbourFront MRT stations.

Free bus services and bus bridging services were terminated at 12.30am, after train services between Dhoby Ghaut and Stadium MRT stations, as well as between Marina Bay and Stadium MRT stations, ceased operations at the end of service hours.

SMRT engineers were promptly deployed on site to remedy the situation so as to restore traction power to the rest of the network. Power was restored at 4.00am.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the power trip was caused by a cable which was damaged by a contractor from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) during the power cable replacement exercise.

Train services on the CCL will resume as per normal on the morning of 19 December 2013. However, SMRT will continue to monitor the situation.
