Team Sweden announces keynote speakers for the Sweden-Southeast Asia Business Summit

Singapore 2016-09-15. Team Sweden in Southeast Asia is proud to present the keynote speakers for “Sweden–Southeast Asia Business Summit” that will take place for the first time on the 21–22 of September 2016 in Singapore at Park Royal on Pickering.

The summit will feature key political and business representatives from Sweden and Southeast Asia, including
Mr. Mikael Damberg, Minister for Enterprise and Innovation, Mr. Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry, Singapore, Mrs. Ylva Berg, CEO, Business Sweden – the Swedish Trade and Invest Council, Mr. Marcus Wallenberg, Chairman of the Board, SEB, SAAB Group & Foundation Asset Management, Mr. Piyush Gupta, Chief Executive Officer and Director of DBS Group and many more.

Mr. Mikael Damberg, Swedish Minister for Enterprise and Innovation, aims to improve the Swedish corporate climate further in order for more people to start new enterprises, and for existing companies to grow, employ more people, and export its products and services. Mr Damberg was elected Member of Parliament in 2002, holding a seat on the Committee of Education, and served as deputy chair of the committee between 2010 and 2012. In 2012, Mr Damberg was elected group leader of the Social Democrats in the Swedish Parliament. He serves as Minister of Enterprise and Innovation in Prime Minister Stefan Löfven´s government since October 2014.

Mr. Lim Hng Kiang has been Minister for Trade and Industry since 2004. Prior to that, he served as Minister in several ministries including the Ministry of National Development and Health. Mr. Lim is also the Deputy Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and a Board Director of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC). Mr. Lim graduated from Cambridge University with First Class Honours (Distinction) in Engineering in 1976. Mr. Lim spent the next nine years in the Singapore Armed Forces, where he held both Command and Staff appointments. In 1985, Mr. Lim was awarded a scholarship for Masters in Public Administration at the Kennedy School in Harvard University.

Mrs. Ylva Berg was appointed CEO of Business Sweden on January 13, 2014, and assumed her position on April 1. With over 15 years of experience in senior management positions in publicly traded and global companies, Ylva Berg possesses vast knowledge of the Swedish private sector and extensive experience in leading organisations. Ylva Berg served most recently as the Managing Director of the Nordic region at Dassault Systèmes, an international software company operating in 40 countries. Before that she served as CEO at Technia Group, Senior Vice President Market Operations & Business Development at BE Group, Managing Director and Trade Commissioner at the Swedish Trade Council (Business Sweden today), and Sales Manager at Tetra Pak.

Mr. Marcus Wallenberg is since 2005 the Chairman of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB), a North European financial group for 400,000 corporate customers, and 5 million private customers. SEB has a local presence in the Nordic and Baltic countries and Germany. Marcus Wallenberg is also the Chairman of Saab AB and FAM AB, and serves on the boards of Investor AB, AstraZeneca Plc, the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and Temasek Holdings Ltd. He is the former Chairman of LKAB and Electrolux AB. Marcus Wallenberg is Vice-Chairman and Treasurer of IIF (Institute of International Finance). Marcus Wallenberg held the position as Chairman and Honorary Chairman of ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) from 2006 to July 2010. From 1999 to 2005, Mr Wallenberg was President and CEO of Investor AB, after having served as Executive Vice-President of the company for six years. Prior to this, he was Director of Stora Feldmühle in Düsseldorf for three years. Marcus Wallenberg earned a B. Sc of Foreign Service from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and began his career at Citibank in New York 1980, followed by various positions at Deutsche Bank in Germany, S G Warburg Co Ltd in London and Citicorp in Hong Kong.

Mr. Piyush Gupta is CEO and Director of DBS Group. Prior to joining DBS, Mr Gupta was Citigroup’s CEO for South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Institute of International Finance, Washington and a member of the of Board of Trustees of Asia Society. He serves as the Deputy Chairman of SPRING Singapore and sits on a number of boards. He has a BA (Honours) in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, India and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM, Ahmedabad.

The summit is a joint effort by “Team Sweden” in Southeast Asia, i.e., the Swedish Embassies, Business Sweden and the business associations and chambers in the respective countries.
