Leaving the site license behind. Publishers search for new pricing policies.

The site license has become, in many cases, the default policy setting for many STM publishers. However, as sales fall and the competition for library and research budgets becomes ever more fierce, publishers are testing new ways of monetizing their content. They are beginning to target individual purchasers and are crafting new purchase policies to suit. A recent article in Publishing Perspectives entitled “Medical Publishing as a model for future growth” addresses this issue, amongst others, and highlights just how fractured and complex the scholarly publishing world continues to be.
