Elite chefs gather at ‘Kockarnas Krog’

Several of Sweden’s foremost chefs will open a restaurant together under Stockholmsmässan’s roof at the ‘Mitt kök’ culinary event on November 10-13. Over four days, visitors will have the chance to see a unique collaboration and sample seven specially-created dishes at Kockarnas Krog (Chefs’ restaurant).

Kockarnas Krog is being organized as part of the Mitt kök exhibition (formerly Det Goda Köket) for the fourth successive year. This year’s theme is Matresan Sverige (Culinary tour of Sweden). The chefs each create a dish based on the theme, which will then be prepared at the exhibition and they donate their payment to charity. Most recently the money went to the UN Association’s "Skolmat blir kunskap" school meals campaign in the third world.
Kockarnas Krog is run in collaboration with Fredrik Eriksson and Restaurangakademien.

“This collaboration is unique. It’s fantastic that Sweden’s foremost chefs gather here at Kockarnas Krog and that they all donate their payment to charity. To date, all chefs have accepted the invitation, says Daniel Fritzdorf, Event Manager for Mitt kök.

New chefs for this year are:

Tommy Myllymäki, who was named Chef of the Year 2007. In 2010 he represented Sweden at the Bocuse d'Or Europe in Geneva and won the silver trophy, Silver Bocuse. Tommy runs Julita Wärdshus outside Katrineholm, and will later this autumn also run the Spira restaurant in the culture complex Spira in Jönköping. Further, he is the Creative Director of famous Stockholm restaurants Sturehof and Riche. He is currently appearing with wine expert Jens Dolk in “Mitt Kök Sverigeresan’ in TV4’s food program “Mitt kök”.

Tomas Diederichsen, who was named Chef of the Year 2011. Tomas works as head chef at Ulfsunda Slott, Bromma. He has previously won Meat Chef of the Year in 2007, and been a finalist in the Chef of the Year competition in 2009.

Tina Nordström, who has extensive experience of working as a TV chef. In 2000, she was the first female to reach the final of the Chef of the Year competition, and that’s where she was discovered by TV. Since then she has become known as “Mat-Tina” after a string of successful TV series about food (mat). Tina has also published several cookbooks.

Paul Svensson, who has over a decade of experience as creative director of top restaurants such as Bon Lloc and F12. He has also distinguished himself with a fifth place at the 2003 world championship for chefs, the Bocuse d’Or in Lyon. Paul is often seen on TV and he gives talks about food, gastronomy and food for all the senses. He is currently the culinary creator behind the restaurant at Fotografiska.

Roy Fares, who was named Pastry Chef of the year 2010. He won the Swedish Championships for young bakers in 2005 and became third in the European Championships the same year. He can now also be seen on SVT's "Go'kväll" on Saturdays, baking cakes and preparing desserts with Ebba von Sydow. Roy Fares works for "PO Choklad och Konditori" in Stockholm.

Annual participants are:

Fredrik Eriksson, who runs Långbro Värdshus in Älvsjö. He is also the creative head of Restaurangakademien, which opened in the Slakthusområdet district of Stockholm just over one year ago. Fredrik Eriksson has also written a number of books and is frequently seen on TV, including TV4’s Nyhetsmorgon. Fredrik Eriksson was named Chef of the Year 1987.

Magnus Johansson, who is Sweden’s most famous pastry chef. He has been responsible for the Nobel banquet dessert for 10 years and was part of the Swedish national team that won the Culinary Olympics. Today he runs Bageri & Konditori in Hammarby Sjöstad as well as working as a consultant and training chefs and pastry chefs in bread, chocolate and desserts. He is also the driving force behind the Chocolate Festival in Stockholm.
