Summer Design Week delivers a design party!

It is once again time for Summer Design Week in Stockholm August 19–25. During the week, Stockholm will be filled with interesting events to celebrate Nordic Design. Stockholmers as well as national and international visitors gather to visit open showrooms, talks, exhibitions, and mingle evenings.

Summer Design Week gathers the design industry to promote Nordic design and highlight Stockholm as a design city. In order to push the boundaries for the definition of design, the events vary widely and include very different perspectives on what constitutes design. The week highlights the hottest design trends.

With the presence of international design and fashion stars, we hope to be able to fill part of the gap left behind by the discontinuation of Fashion Week.

“We are very pleased with how Summer Design Week is expanding, and this year the number of activities has doubled. The future is bright,” says Lotta Ahlvar, Operative Event Manager.

Some highlights during Summer Design Week:

Zandra Rhodes at Stockholms Auktionsverk
British fashion designer Zandra Rhodes is in Stockholm with a colorful exhibition at Stockholms Auktionsverk, where she will auction her artwork, posters and several exclusively selected garments. We are honored that Zandra Rhodes is visiting Stockholm once again during her anniversary year–she is celebrating 50 years in the fashion industry.

Design Diplomacy
Design Diplomacy was initiated by Helsinki Design Week to promote relationships between countries and designers. Design Diplomacy, which has previously been held in Tokyo, Reykjavik, Berlin, Oslo, Madrid, Canberra and New York, will be held at both the Dutch and the Finnish embassies. The Dutch embassy will host among others designer Rick Tegelaar from Dutch Moooi, and the Finnish embassy will host Jennie Rosén, CEO of the industry organization Swedish Fashion Council, and designer Tiia Vanhatapio.

Design breakfast at Nationalmuseum
Nationalmuseum, Sweden’s national arena for art and design, is one of the partners behind design week, which features design breakfasts, after work events and specially guided tours of the exhibition on Danish Finn Juhl.

Mateus meets Pierre Frey
Interior designer Costas Voyatzis, who comes from Greece and also founded the successful online destination Yatzer, curates a meeting between the brands Mateus and the French textile company Pierre Frey.

Formex Nova design award
On August 20, the Formex Nova design award will be presented at a gala at the Opera Terrace. The award goes to a young designer who is working in the Nordic region, and the winner will be selected by an expert jury. The award was established by the interior design fair Formex to promote high-quality Nordic design. It will be presented by the President of the Stockholm City Council Cecilia Brinck. See the list of nominees here. Please note! By invitation only.
