Thousands of summer dreams on show at the Stockholm International Boat Show, Allt för sjön

“Update your summer dreams” is this year’s Boat Show theme. Visitors will not only get insights into the world of boating but a chance to update their summer dreams as well. These include buying a new boat or new accessories, suggestions for new destinations and a preview of 2012’s marine fashion.

One major attraction expected to be a visitor magnet is the All Aboard concept boat. The Swedish Marine Technology Forum (SMTF) and around 20 companies in the boating industry are behind this exciting concept boat. The project is managed by two women from the team that developed Volvo’s YYC concept car a few years ago, which attracted a lot of attention in Sweden and beyond. The same basic concept has been redeployed: to include the female perspective without excluding the male. This time around, the concept has been applied to a leisure boat.  A world premiere at Stockholm International Boat Show!

“Everyone will be here. There will be both small leisure craft and big yachts on display. While the boat industry isn’t immune from the effects of the recession, the Boat Show will be the same size as last year with many world firsts and popular activities. And there will be a huge range of fun marine activities for the kids as well. So it’s a show the whole family can enjoy,” explains Thomas Sandberg, Project Manager of the Boat Show.

Dufour 36 Performance and Arcona 410 are just two of the names among the new yachts. It will also be the premiere for motor boats, such as the Princess V39, as well as the Anytec 860 CAB and Arronet 24 5 CX aluminum boats. Other new boats include the Chaparral 225 SSi WT, Windy 31 Zonda and Skärgårdsströvaren. Among the slightly more unusual exhibits are a 16-foot double-ender designed by Tore Herlin in 1933 and a completely new Swedish hydrofoil.

Wokart is another rather quirky and fun world innovation. It is an attractively designed “Sea Kart”. It is four meters long, 1.70 meters wide and can reach speeds in excess of 40 knots. It is made of carbon fiber and can run on electricity or with a 4-stroke engine.

“There will be some big new yachts as well. The largest yacht at the show will be a Princess V52, which is an impressive 52 feet (16 meters) in length,” Thomas says.

The Classic Boat department has an even greater number of rarities this year. The theme is 100 Years of Olympic Boats. Nine wonderful Olympic boats will be on display. They include a 40-year-old 5.5, which was built and refitted at the Rosättra shipyard. Another stylish veteran is Yaramaz, which took part in the 1912 Olympics, as well as the X fin-keel racer, which takes pride of place in its own pool.

Skärgårdsradion and Hamnen.se will be setting up an audio visual studio in the Entrance Hall. They will be broadcasting live interviews to attract new visitors to the Boat Show.

“The halls will be providing news, entertainment and activities. The Cruising Association has booked 120 seminars for visitors to choose between and there will be various fun sea-related activities for kids. This is a boat show the entire family can enjoy,” comments Thomas Sandberg.
