MOMENI Group hires ZÜBLIN to build SPRINGER QUARTIER in Hamburg

  • Modern and architecturally harmonious new building ensemble with completely renovated Axel Springer highrise
  • Completion scheduled in 2020

Ed. Züblin AG is realising a real estate project in the heart of Hamburg that will reshape the city’s skyline. MOMENI Group has hired ZÜBLIN’s Subdivision North to build the new SPRINGER QUARTIER in central Hamburg. The contract covers the modernisation of the historically listed 14-floor Axel Springer highrise as well as the construction of an adjoining new building complex with a total of about 60,000 m² of gross floor area on eight floors and three basement parking levels. ZÜBLIN’s Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern business units will realise the designs by renowned architectural firm von Gerkan, Marg und Partner (gmp). The modernisation of the existing highrise has already begun. Work on the new building will start in early 2018. The project is scheduled for completion in 2020.

Visual highlight: structured natural stone façade

The 1950s-era Axel Springer building will undergo extensive interior renovations to meet the demands of modern office environments. Outside, the highrise will receive a new energy-efficient exterior in compliance with the requirements of building conservation. The new building between Kaiser Wilhelm Street and Fuhlentwiete will have six full floors, two recessed floors and about 35,000 m² of aboveground gross floor area for offices, 53 residential units, and retail and restaurant space on the ground floor. The three basement levels will accommodate approximately 300 underground parking spaces. The new building will form an architecturally harmonious ensemble with the 50 m tall historical highrise at Axel-Springer-Platz 1. A visual highlight will be the uniform façade of high-quality natural stone. Publishing house Axel Springer recently rented back the historically listed highrise from MOMENI under a long-term agreement. In the new building, about 12,000 m² have already been let long term to KPMG AG even before the start of construction.

New pedestrian boulevard to bring life into the quarter

The redesigned SPRINGER QUARTIER will create a new pedestrian boulevard between Kaiser Wilhelm Straße and Caffamacherreihe. Dr. Hanjo Hautz, managing director of MOMEMI Projektentwicklung GmbH, expects a noticeable revival of the quarter: “The unique attraction for us is to rouse the sleeping quarter from its long sleep and to help shape and grow one of Hamburg’s important inner-city districts.”Hamburg-based and owner-operated, MOMENI Group operates nationwide in Germany. As an investor, it is a specialist for the development and management of top-quality real estate in central locations of large German cities. The company also acts as an investment manager for institutional investors.
