Global Aviation Hackathon - {re}coding aviation

Seven airports are inviting developers, designers and enthusiasts to hack the passenger journey during 48-hours in Berlin 16-18th June, 2017.

For the first time in history, seven international airports will join forces to establish interconnectivity and unleash the global potential of open innovation during a 2-day hackathon. {re}coding aviation is a raw coding hackathon inviting developers, designers, and enthusiasts to hack new and innovative solutions that establish interconnectivity between airports and progress towards a seamless passenger journey eased by automation processes and digital innovations.

The initiator of the hackathon is Schiphol, Amsterdam. Together, all the airports are hosting this hackathon, including airports from Copenhagen, Munich, Frankfurt, Gatwick, Geneva, Stockholm, and Amsterdam. The seven airports have decided to open up their APIs and datasets for participants to create the future of aviation around the following themes:

  • Life before the airport
  • Life at the airport
  • Life between the airports
  • Life after the airport

- Digitalization is one of Swedavia’s main focus areas and we are very proud to be part of the biggest airport hackathons ever. We look forward to new innovative solutions that can improve customer experience at our ten Swedish airports, says Marie Norman, Head of Procucts & Concepts at Swedavia and Swedavia’s judge during Global Aviation Hackathon.

Using AI, IoT and sensors, chat bots, robotics, wearables, cloud-based solutions, wayfinding – and all the other new technology they can get their hands on – participants are to create fresh ideas to reinvent the airport experience; particularly solutions that veer away from the standard mobile applications and booking sites. Participants will also have access to partnering companies’ APIs; specifically SITA, UBER.
