Swegon GOLD PX – the next generation is here

The air handling unit series GOLD from Swegon has received a major update, in the shape of a new generation of GOLD PX cross flow heat exchangers. With increased efficiency, the new GOLD PX means significant energy savings, and the addition of new product sizes means better matches for each new project.

The GOLD PX range of cross flow heat exchangers is typically used in applications where no air transfer from extract air to supply air can be permitted, i.e. in systems that handles kitchens fumes, smoke etc. In these applications the GOLD PX cross flow heat exchangers are perfect, making sure the supply and extract air streams are separated, while still providing a high rate of energy recovery. The cross flow heat exchanger also makes the GOLD PX unit extremely compact, for a plate heat exchanger, saving valuable installation space.

‘The new generation of GOLD PX takes energy performance to a new level’, states Mikael Börjesson, Product Manager at Swegon. To start with, a brand new design provides improved efficiency all across the operating range, achieving instantaneous energy recovery efficiency of up to 78%. To utilize this in a flexible way there will be different versions available, either for maximizing the temperature efficiency to save energy on improved energy recovery, or minimizing the pressure drop over the exchanger to save fan power. ‘Either way, it’s a win’, says Börjesson.

But what really makes an impact on the energy consumption of the ventilation system as a whole, is the annual efficiency rate. From this perspective, on top of the improvements of the heat exchanger, the smart controls already included in the GOLD unit also come into use. By using humidity and temperature sensor data to control the air by-pass, the energy losses incurred at de-frosting cycles for the heat exchanger can be cleverly minimized, combining excellent operation safety with significant energy savings. The annual energy recovery efficiency depends on location, but is often well above 90% in Central Europe.

And last but not least, along with the new generation GOLD PX, two new product sizes are added to the range. Avoiding oversized units means lower investment costs, better performance and lower energy consumption, and the new GOLD PX range will make it easier to find even better matches for each project.
