National Fitness Day is the perfect opportunity to start fighting the flab - Use a Tanita Body composition monitor to build a healthier future

The NHS says the trebling of obesity levels in the UK over the past 30 years has left the nation with the highest level of obesity in Western Europe, ahead of countries such as France, Germany and Spain., and warns half the population obese by 2050. Professor Terence Stephenson in Measuring Up, a report on the nation's obesity crisis by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC), described the UK as ‘the fat man of Europe’ and added it is no exaggeration to say that obesity “is the biggest public health crisis facing the UK today.”

“These levels of obesity are critical as we known it can lead to heart disease, diabetes and cancer as well as feelings of depression and self-esteem,” said Tanita UK manager Simon Bradley. Speaking as the UK celebrates National Fitness Day on Wednesday, September 27, Simon stresses that obesity is the result of unhealthy eating and activity and lifestyle changes encouraging people to eat less and exercise more can help tackle the problem.

Simon Bradley, a competitive cyclist in his free time, recommends that people wanting get a fitness programme underway should consider investing in a body composition monitor rather than a traditional bathroom scale. “Body fat monitoring is a far better guide to health than weight alone as it shows the pounds made of fat and the pounds made of lean tissue. Measuring the changes in body fat will allow you to make healthy changes to your lifestyle which will benefit the whole family,” he said.

Simon uses Tanita body fat monitors, which are used by the NHS, sports clubs and fitness centres across the UK, both in his own bathroom and local health club. Tanita developed the world’s first body fat monitor and are market leaders in this field, producing highly accurate body fat monitors for both professionals and regular shoppers. Looking beyond scales to products that enable consumers to monitor their own health, Tanita’s goal is to help people enjoy healthier lives.
