Personal heat alarm helps people and pets avoid dehydrating this summer as heat waves sweep Europe

Amsterdam, June 19, 2017 – With weather forecasters predicting a long, very hot summer in many part of Europe this year with several health-threatening heatwaves, people are being advised to ensure they and their loved ones, including pets, avoid heat stroke, dehydration and illness. However, not everyone recognises the danger signs, which is why the new smart personal heat meter from Tanita can help people avoid succumbing to the heat.

“People all too often ignore the early symptoms of heat exhaustion and the need to rehydrate or just don’t recognise the signs quickly enough,” said Jan Alderlieste, Tanita Chief Operations Officer in Europe, the Middle East and Russia. He noted that over-heating can occur even when a thermometer is showing a near normal body temperature.

Tanita’s new TT-563 WBGT is a convenient, easy and affordable way to use a monitor that allows you to determine the safe levels of physical exertion when working or exercising outdoors. Simply place the TT-563 in direct sunlight to monitor temperature, humidity and solar radiation and see the results displayed within seconds.

The TT-563 incorporates a solar radiation sensor, thermometer, and humidity gauge in a convenient and easy to use package. The small hand-held design can be carried on your body or attached to a rigid fixture. Results are displayed in real time, with programmable audible alarms. The TT-563 is powered by 1 CR2032 battery (included) which will last up to 1 year, comes with several convenient attachment accessories, and has a 1-year warranty.

The ‘WBGT’ refers to an equation where a combination of environmental factors are used to calculate a reading. The calculation used measures the heat stress in direct sunlight, taking into account the temperature, wind speed, humidity, the angle of the sun and the cloud cover.

The Tanita heat meter takes personal safety and wellbeing during hot periods to a whole new level beyond the traditional advice to drink plenty of fluids like water, stay indoors and avoid exposure and strenuous physical activity. The heat monitor is a major boon for elderly people, children and the sick, who are the most vulnerable, as well as for those who are overweight, who can be more prone to extreme heat because their bodies tend to retain it more.

The Tanita TT-563 WBGT Heat Index Meter has been designed to provide an early warning system to alert people to the need to drink and rest more often during a heat wave. Easily carried around unobtrusively, the heat sensor is perfect for elderly people, children and those suffering from an illness or physical disability who are already more vulnerable to high temperatures.

“The Tanita heat sensor is ideal for use at work, sporting and other leisure events, and even for helping make sure your dog, horse or other pet is not at risk of over heating,” said Jan Alderlieste.

The Tanita TT-563 WBGT Heat Index Meter is available online for just €99.95
