TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Obtains HSE Certification - The First Company-level Certification to be Granted in Japan

TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. (HQ: 1083 Tsuneishi, Numakuma-cho, Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Japan; President: Kenji Kawano; hereinafter, “TSUNEISHI”) is pleased to announce it has received HSE certification from the internationally recognised Health, Safety & Environment Management System. Nippon Kajii Kyokai (ClassNK) presented the certificate in an HSE Certification Presentation Ceremony held at the TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING head office on 25 January 2018.

By positioning the occupational health and safety standards of companies at the top of management systems, the HSE Management System has the potential to become a management tool that unifies our focus and makes it possible to secure ongoing improvements, express the values of our company in terms of employee safety, and define and achieve work safety targets and processes. Within this scope, our objective is to provide top-quality ships that please our customers by maintaining a positive environment and ensuring the health and safety of each staff member at the TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING main factory.

TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING has been conducting HSE activities since February 2017 in preparation for anticipated orders for a wide variety of vessels in future, and this appraisal was the first of its kind for Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, making TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING the first Japanese company in the shipping industry to be appraised at the company level.

● Comment from Mr. Koichi Fujiwara, Chairman of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK)
When considering the survival and growth of Japanese shipbuilders and ship equipment manufacturers in this extremely competitive global industry, a company-wide commitment towards HSE initiatives is becoming imperative. TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING took a very significant step when it became the first company to obtain our HSE Certification. The strong resolve and leadership of top management, who formulated HSE, deserves special mention. I think we can expect great things in terms of ongoing improvements.

● Comment from Mr. Takuma Ashida, Factory Manager at TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd.
Since FY 2017, we have been working on our understanding of HSE initiatives and considering and implementing improvements with the support of ClassNK. At the end of the year, our factory underwent the appraisal, the first TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. factory to do so. I feel that the quantification of occupational health and safety initiatives has enabled us to grasp our current position and makes the next steps for us extremely clear. To ensure that the positive effects of these initiatives are reflected in the health and safety of all employees and local residents and in the reduction of environmental impact, we intend to set HSE targets for this or the following fiscal year and make even-greater improvements on an ongoing basis.
