Press release -

Rooney and Ronaldo pay high odds in the race for the Ballon D'Or - but Messi is the runaway favourite

Can anyone stop Lionel Messi winning his third Ballon D’Or title? Online bookmaker Betclic.com doesn’t think so and makes the Argentinean wizard clear favourite to win his third consecutive title while Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldy pays 6.00 and Manchester United's Wayne Rooney 50.00 in odds.

Spanish football dominates this year’s nominations for the prestigious trophy as Barcelona has eight nominations and the Spanish national side with seven.

And it is Barcelona forward Messi has once again been the standout talent in world football over the past year and he is the clear front runner to win the coveted Ballon D’Or title.

Messi has one the past two titles and another win this year would take him level with football legends such as Johann Cruyff, Michelle Platini and Marco Van Basten in winning the award three times.

He is 1.14 with Betclic to match Platini by winning the Ballon D’Or trophy for a third consecutive year.

His rivals for the award come in the shape of Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portugal international is eight times the money and if anyone can stop Messi it is the 2008 winner.

Messi’s Barca team-mates Xavi and Iniesta, who finished second and third respectively in last year’s awards, are both 20 times the money with Betclic to take top spot.

English football’s challenge for European football’s top individual prize comes in the shape of Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney. The English forward in a massive 50.00 on Betclic.co to follow in Michael Owen, Kevin Keegan, Bobby Charlton and Stanley Matthews’ footsteps and become England’s fifth winner.

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is also 50 times the money to win the title along with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, while Manchester United’s second nomination is Nani who is 200.00 to win.
