BT redevelopment application could pave the way for new homes and primary school in Vauxhall

BT today submitted a planning application to Lambeth Council for the redevelopment of one of its properties, Keybridge House on South Lambeth Road, Vauxhall. Keybridge House sits in the Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea area, the regeneration of which could see the development of up to 415 new houses and apartments and land for a new two-form entry primary school gifted to Lambeth Council. 

In preparation for the submission of the application, BT held a public consultation in the spring. The feedback from the consultation was extremely positive, with 73% of respondents saying that the master plan was either very good or good, and a similar number (72%) supporting the provision of the site for a new primary school. 

Sally Leonard, BT Group Property Head of Asset Management and Strategy, said: “Keybridge House has been an important part of BT’s communications business but it’s now the right time for the site, located as it is in the heart of London, to play its part in the regeneration of the Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea area. We are delighted with the response we have had to the proposals so far. Since the spring we have been refining the master plan and are confident we are submitting a truly excellent proposal that will make a lasting and positive contribution to the area”. 

If BT is successful in the planning application it will then look to sell the site to a property developer to act upon the plans.

• Keybridge House is owned by BT and the redevelopment is being managed by their property partner Telereal Trillium. 
• The building is approximately 750,000 sq. ft. and made up of a 15 storey tower and a 4 storey podium on an approximate 3.35 acre site. 
• The building is approximately 86 metres (282 feet) high. 
• Keybridge House was designed by GW Mills & Associates for the Post Office, subsequently BT, and built in 1975 on the site of the former Brand's fish paste factory. 
• BT created the first UK, and the world's largest, digital international telephone exchange at the site.
