Be happy, be healthy – you only live once!

You Only Live Once (YOLO) is a 12-month exercise referral pilot aimed at young people from Year 6 to age 16 who have been measured as overweight and want to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle.

The scheme is being funded by the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and delivered by exercise and public health teams at Bury Council and nutrition experts from Pennine Care.

The project starts on Tuesday 28 January at Castle Leisure Centre, either for people who wish to join or who have been referred by a school nurse or health professional. It will then run every Tuesday and Thursday for ten weeks with a free bonus weekend fun session in either the gym, swimming or roller skating. The aim is reduce weight but also increase activity levels and self-esteem through structured fun physical activity sessions.

All sessions will be free of charge, and young people who complete the course will be given a free junior membership worth £39.

Sessions are held at Castle Leisure Centre and Bury Asda will hold two of the nutrition sessions.
