Bury planners receive national acclaim

Planning officers at Bury Council made the shortlist for a national award due to their 100% performance.

They were Highly Commended in the Planning Awards 2017, only beaten by the City of London in the Local Authority Planning Team of the Year category.

Bury received its accolade for its consistently high standards of performance in relation to speed of decisions. For two years running, officers have decided 100% of major planning applications on time.

The awards recognise excellence in planning and placemaking work, covering activities such as urban design, economic development, housing and regeneration as well as planning.

Councillor Judith Kelly, cabinet member for corporate affairs and regulatory services, said: “This is a superb result for the team, and my congratulations go to all of them. Not only have officers dealt with applications on time but their work has been recognised and emulated by local authorities across the country.”
