Call centre extends opening hours to deal with benefit changes

Bury Council has announced that it will be extending the opening hours of its council tax and benefits contact centre to help meet the needs of local people struggling to find time during their busy working day to ask questions about their new council tax bills.

From Monday 11 March to Friday 15 March customers can contact 0161 253 5656 for council tax enquiries and 0161 253 5858 for benefit enquiries and the lines will be open from 8am to 7pm. On Saturday 16 March lines will be open from 9am to 3pm and from Monday 18 March to Friday 22 March from 8am to 7pm.

Claire Jenkins, Head of Customer Support and Collections, who heads up the team said, “We realise that there is a tremendous amount of change happening to the benefits system and people naturally have a lot of questions. This is why during the busy billing period we will be offering extended opening hours to suit customers, to cope with the increased demand”.
