Display of First World War soldiers’ letters at Radcliffe Library

Copies of letters sent by soldiers to Close Methodist Church during the First World War are on display at Radcliffe Library.

The letters express their gratitude for parcels and correspondence sent to them by the congregation.

These are just a few examples of more than 100 letters that have been donated to the borough’s archive service. The documents are copies in order to protect the originals, and there are transcriptions of all the letters as some of the handwriting is hard to read.

More of the letters will displayed in future months: for more information, go to https://buryculture.wordpress.com/2016/12/01/radcliffe-library-archive-display/
