Fly-tipper caught on CCTV fined £400

A Bury woman who was filmed dumping rubbish in a back alley near her home has been fined £400 at court.

Sofia Younis, of Hurst Street, Pimhole was caught on CCTV depositing waste on two separate occasions in June 2018 in Back Hurst Street.

Younis (aged 41) was given a fixed penalty notice of £75 for each offence, but she did not pay them. She was then prosecuted at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court where, on 24 January 2019, she was fined £400 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge.

Councillor Judith Kelly, cabinet member for corporate affairs and HR, said: “Pimhole is a hot-spot area for fly tipping, but people across the borough are fed up with the actions of irresponsible people who blight our neighbourhoods with litter and fly-tipping. We urge anyone who witnesses this behaviour to report it to the council so that we can take action against the perpetrators.”
