Jobs and training advice on your doorstep

A new service to provide employment support, advice and training has just opened for business.

Prestwich Works, the sister location to the successful Radcliffe and Bury Works offices, is located at 45 Bury New Road in Prestwich. It is being run by JCom Employment Agency, a not-for-profit employment support organisation.

The service was officially opened on Monday (18 February) by the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Joan Grimshaw.

Prestwich Works is open from Monday to Thursday (9am to 5pm) and on Friday (9am to 1pm). Two dedicated staff from JCom will be on hand to cater for visitors’ needs. JCom will also be working with organisations including Jobcentre Plus, The National Careers Service and Bury College and will be running joint surgeries with them to ensure that the local community benefits from the support they offer.

At Prestwich Works, visitors can use the internet to search for jobs and training opportunities. A jobs board will be updated every week showing jobs available locally and across Greater Manchester.

Cllr Mike Connolly, leader of Bury Council, said: “The Prestwich Works office will provide an important presence at the heart of the community so that local people can take advantage of really good employment advice in these difficult economic times. Visitors can boost their employment prospects through training opportunities to improve their skills, face-to-face sessions with advisers, and getting expert advice."

Norman Younger, one of the directors of JCom, added: “Having an employment support centre in the heart of the community brings accessibility to a new level and is a fantastic facility to help a hard-to-reach group to ‘up-skill’ and find employment. I have little doubt that our customers will benefit immeasurably from this innovation for which I would like to put on the record our appreciation to Bury Council for their support, and both myself and the staff at JCom hope that this is the start of a long and mutually beneficial relationship.”
