Press release -

Now you can recycle on the go

Residents and visitors to Bury can now recycle more while out and about in the borough’s town centres and at the main parks.

New town centre recycling bins and park recycling centres are now in place for recycling typical “on the go” items such as plastic bottles, drink cans, glass bottles, newspapers and magazines.

The extra recycling gathered from town centres and parks will count towards Bury’s target to recycle 50% or more, help keep more waste out of landfill and save money on disposal costs.

Council streetcare teams will be responsible for these new facilities and will empty them on a regular basis.

Councillor Gill Campbell, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and regeneration, said: “Please look out for these new recycling facilities when you are out and about and make good use of them whenever you can.  We need an extra 2,800 tonnes of recycling to get our recycling rate up from 46% to 50%, that’s just a few extra recycling items per household per week. If we all get into the habit of recycling on the go as well as at home we will make our target a lot easier to reach.”

Town centre recycling bins are already in place at the busiest locations in Bury town centre and on their way to the other townships soon.  The recycling centres in parks are in place at Bolton Road Park and Close Park in Radcliffe; at Whitehead Park, Openshaw Park, Hoyles Park and Clarence Park in Bury; at St Mary’s Park in Prestwich; at Whitefield Park in Whitefield; at Town Meadow Park in Tottington; and at Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom. Facilities will follow soon at Manchester Road Park and Burrs Country Park.
