Our friends electric – Clean Air Day is just the start

People have been urged to use alternative 'green' ways to travel following Clean Air Day.

The Mayor of Bury, Cllr Jane Black, and council leader Rishi Shori took the opportunity to try out the latest electric bikes, courtesy of Leisure Lakes, on The Rock.

They also took the chance to view the all-electric Nissan Leaf and the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid, displayed by RRG Bury outside the M&S store. These vehicles offer a low pollution alternative to the traditional car and can save drivers money on petrol or diesel costs. 

Staff from Bury Council were there to discuss air quality in the borough and offer advice on how you can travel more sustainably. They also offered visitors the chance to check the carbon monoxide levels in their lungs.

Residents were invited to sign a pledge to walk or cycle more, leave the car at home one day a week, or to car share. For details, go tohttps://www.tfgm.com/air

Cllr Shori said: “Road transport is largely responsible for the high levels of air pollution we have in Greater Manchester. We need to think about the harm this is causing to our health, and the health of future generations. By making changes to our travel habits we can all make a difference.”
