Popular artisan market shows that We Love Manchester

The second Prestwich Artisan Market brought in 2,500 visitors and raised more than £420 for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.

Hosted by Bury Venues and Village Greens Cooperative, the second quarterly event boasted more than 40 specialist artisan traders at the Longfield Suite and around the Prestwich Fountain.

Visitors were able to buy food, drink, vegan skincare, jewellery, horticulture and art and illustration, and enjoyed some old films of Prestwich Village and Prestwich Clough courtesy of Prestwich Community Cinema.

A number of traders including Whitefield-based artists Marie Wood and Elizabeth Gregory Designs designed and sold special artworks with proceeds donated to the We Love ManchesterEmergency Fund. Further donations were given by attendees.

Paul Campbell of Village Greens said: "We established the Artisan Market to bring a selection of the finest artisan products to the people of Prestwich and with a wider brief to stimulate Prestwich village as a whole. Businesses such as ourselves reported that sales had nearly doubled on the day of the market. Percival’s the newsagent had to order in extra papers that day, cafes such as Barley opened specially, the new Polish Plus shop did a roaring trade and the branches of chains such as Costa Coffee and Iceland saw a noticeable sales boost."

The next market will be on Sunday 24 September and the Prestwich Artisan Winter Market takes place on Sunday 17 December.
