Local people are being asked for their views on proposed changes to Bury’s Council Tax Support Scheme.
Council Tax Support is a means tested benefit to help people on low incomes with their Council Tax. The scheme is part funded by the Government, and part funded by the council.
The proposed changes will see some residents who receive Council Tax Support contributing more to their Council Tax.
Councillor Sandra Walmsley, cabinet member for strategic housing and support services said: “Bury Council’s current scheme is one of the most generous in Greater Manchester and has remained unchanged since 2013, but we are being forced to review the scheme because of severe budget cuts imposed on us by government.
“We are urging all residents to take part in this consultation, not just those receiving Council Tax support, because these changes will affect the council’s finances and how it is able to provide its services in the future.”
Details of the proposals, and how to take part in the survey, are available on the council’s website at www.bury.gov.uk/counciltaxsupport2017
Paper copies of the consultation are available at council offices in Radcliffe, Bury and Prestwich.
