Suicide Prevention Charity, CALM, Announce Further High Profile Support

CALM are delighted to announce further high profile support for the charity following recent partnerships with Topman, Lynx and new Patron Professor Green, with new support from Kerrang!, the digital agency Tokyo and Coronation Street.

Iconic rock brand Kerrang! have chosen CALM as the official charity partner for their Rock Against Depression campaign running across their radio station and magazine throughout May. The campaign is highlighting the importance of talking about mental health, and will be promoting CALM and the work that we do throughout the month on air and in print.

Kerrang! Radio Presenter, Alex Baker, says:

“Rock Against Depression has one, simple, clear aim – to get people to talk about something that people just don’t talk about enough! CALM are committed to not only spreading this message, but also offer genuine advice and people to talk to through their helpline and web chat service.”

Digital agency Tokyo, who have been providing pro bono work for CALM this year, also became official sponsors of the charity this week. They will be working on CALM's campaigns over the next year, raising awareness of male suicide across the UK and assisting CALM in engaging with the public and with brands.

Tokyo Digital Managing Director, Aaron Bimpson says:

"We all know people - friends or family - who suffer with anxiety and depression and I’ve personally struggled with some of the issues the charity highlights. As well as supporting its cause, CALM has long-standing roots in Liverpool, which is where Tokyo and its founding members are from. We’re really looking forward to working with the charity and its partners to reach out and raise awareness of issues surrounding mental health and male suicide.”

Last but by no means least, CALM have been overwhelmed by the support they have received from the cast and crew of Coronation Street, in memory of their friend and colleague, Mike Curtis. Not only have they been in training to run the Manchester 10k en masse this weekend in aid of CALM, they have been tirelessly promoting the charity on social media and online, encouraging cast members and other well known faces such as Lorraine Kelly and Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-HIll, to step up and support CALM.

Coronation Street crew members Matt Hilton, Lisa Spencer and Alan Newton said:

"CALM has had an enormous impact on everybody at Coronation Street, from having the Propamanda #Mandictionary bus stop poster on the Street and posters/leaflets everywhere around work to a phenomenal number of people, both Cast and Crew, wanted to pay tribute to Mike by running 10K in Manchester. Many taking part have never even run before so it really is testament to Mike and to how much he is loved and missed!"

CALM CEO, Jane Powell, says:

"The last 6 months at CALM have seen support from the public, celebrities and companies start to balloon. It feels as if we are finally making headway on this issue and at the very least ensure that everyone knows that suicide is the single biggest killer of men in the UK, and has an idea of where to turn for help."
