On the tree lined banks of the River Rhône, surrounded by the 800-year-old ramparts, the medieval city of Avignon is steeped in ancient lore and mystery and even more so during the festive season when Christmas lights, and a possible light dusting of snow, add to the city’s enchanting ambience.
